Brand New Life Photography FAQ's
How do I prepare for a newborn session?
Relax, the best way to help a newborn session to go smoothly is to be as relaxed as possible. You won’t need to do anything during the session other than feed if you are nursing. Try to keep your baby alert for around an hour before you leave, you can feed your newborn once you arrive to ensure they have a nice full belly. Dress baby in a button up or zip onsie so we can avoid pulling clothing over their head and put their nappy on nice and loose so we don’t have nappy marks to contend with.
What do I need to bring with me?
I provide all props, wraps etc that we will need for the session. I also have nappies, changing pad and nursing pads here just in case something is forgotten. I provide bottled water for your session but please bring with you any snacks for you and your children should they get hungry. Also a bottle (if bottle or express feeding) and dummy if you have chosen to use one as these are very helpful in getting your little baby to settle and sleep.
How long will the session take?
A Newborn session can take anywhere from 2-4 hours depending on how well your baby settles on the day and whether or not they are cluster feeding. This time accounts for feeds, settling, poo and wee accidents and of course some lovely newborn snuggles.
Where do newborn sessions take place?
Sessions take place in my home studio located in Point Cook. It is a lovely warm environment with ample parking available.
When do I need to book?
I only book a certain number of sessions per month so I do advise you to book as early as possible. Contact us in your 1st or 2nd trimester for Newborns and Maternity and we will pencil it in, we will confirm a date based on when you deliver your baby.
Why do I need to book in before I have my baby?
While I may have a time available right around your due date I often book out months in advance. Please contact us as early as possible to avoid missing out.
Is it too late to book if my baby is already born?
Of course not, I do leave a couple of free days just in case of emergency so it doesn’t hurt to ask. Your best bet is to get in early to be absolutely sure that I have a time available for you.
What do I need to do after my baby is born?
Once your baby has been born and you have had cuddles and bonding time with your newborn and family, message me and we will work out a day for you to come in once you have left the hospital.
How soon after birth will the session happen?
I photograph babies within the first two weeks of birth to ensure we can capture the gorgeous sleepy curly poses. Babies can still be beautifully photographed after this time however some certain poses may be less achievable.
Do you provide props, etc?
Yes! I have a large range of backdrops, props, wraps, hats, and tie backs all ready for your beautiful baby.
What if my baby poops or wees during a session?
I am well equipped to deal with accidents in the studio and you need not worry. Accidents are most certain to happen during a session as baby is nice and relaxed.
Do you offer parent and sibling photos?
Absolutely! Although the main focus of the session will be your darling newborn, Parent and Sibling photos are some of my favourites.
What should we wear?
For family and sibling please wear neutral colours and avoid any large logos and patterns on clothing as these will date quickly and you want your portraits to be as timeless as possible.
Creams, Navy’s, grey, etc all look great together. Below is a link to a popular blog post by Suburban Simplicity on what to wear to give you some ideas. http://www.suburbansimplicity.com/10-tips-what-wear-family-pictures/#_a5y_p=5378553
When will we be able to view our photos?
Once your session has taken place I will retouch your images and send you a link and password to your gallery, this process takes around 2 weeks from the date of your session.
How do we make our selections of products and images?
I will send you a link and password for your online watermarked gallery. From there you can choose which images you wish to purchase as digitals and you can email me at email@example.com with your selections for your wall art and albums etc.
How many images are in our gallery?
Depending on the session I will provide 15-20 images in a Maternity gallery and 20-25 images for a Newborn gallery to choose from.
When will we receive our products and images?
Digital images can be collected the day after your payment clears. You can expect products to be ready 2-3 weeks after your order is placed and payment has cleared. However, due to outsourcing, some delays may take place which are out of our control. You will be kept well informed if this were to happen and we will always do our best to have your products to you as soon as possible.
How long do you keep the digital images for?
Once the session has taken place I keep all images for 6 months after which I will keep only the purchased images for a further 6 months.
Do you offer a payment plan?
Yes we do!
Our payment plan is available for orders over $600 and spans a 6 month period.
